Chapter 54 Improving
Zayn observed the situation around him carefully. He could tell that the groups of Blessed to his right were doing fine and that they wouldn\'t have any issues fighting the Ordinary Undead that was in front of them.
Most of the Blessed was about to finish creating their first Soulring, which made them stronger than Zayn and his Spirits. However, that was a good thing since it would be a hassle if everyone was as weak as him.
Zayn charged at the outermost area of the battlefield, where the vast majority of Undead were Goblin Skeletons. There were hundreds of them but only a few focused on Zayn and his Spirits since they felt much more vigor emanating from the other Blessed around them and inside the town.
Thus, Zayn was not attacked at first, granting him a decisive advantage. The Agile Human Spirit charged forward with the karambit knuckles unsheathed and was ready to crush the Goblin Skeletons to pieces.
It was too weak to break the Goblin Skeletons\' Cores of the Undead with a single attack since it was not exactly powerful right now. The high-velocity punches of the Agile Human Spirit were rapid and issued with fearsome precision, but it could only break some bones with every single punch. Even then the bones only broke due to the sharp spikes that adorned the knuckles.
The spikes of the knuckles were not only sharp but also extremely durable. They were unscathed even after colliding with the hard bones of the Goblin Skeletons. This provided enough information for the Agile Human Spirit to change its attack pattern slightly.
After Zayn and his Spirits fought the Goblin Skeletons a few times they got to know their attack pattern almost perfectly. Thus, it was no surprise that the Agile Human Spirit evaded the incoming attacks easily before it crushed the Goblin Skeleton\'s shoulder joints with two precise attacks before its spine was struck with a third attack.
The Agile Human Spirit was frustrated that it was required to issue so many attacks to defeat an ordinary monster like a Goblin Skeleton but there was not much it could do against it. Destroying the Goblin Skeleton\'s ribcage and slicing the Core of the Undead afterward would require a different set of movements which would inevitably require a slightly longer duration to be performed.
Time was of the essence. Zayn mentioned that often enough, which was why his Spirits followed suit by acting accordingly.
"Sparrows, back off. You\'re my safety net!" Zayn shouted out loud enough for the Blessed to his right to hear. They didn\'t understand what he meant but it was not as if they had enough time to stare blankly into the air, let alone to ask a stranger who looked like a black bandaged mummy what bullshit he was talking about.
And much to Zayn\'s relief, the Sparrow Spirits acted accordingly. The two Sparrow Spirits had been about to help Zayn in the fight against the Goblin Skeletons when they were told to stay away. They had to stop their sharp dive toward the ground where they would have started to wreak havoc by releasing a bunch of fire needles.
Meanwhile, Zayn and the Herculean Human Spirit were taking care of a bunch of Goblin Skeletons. The Herculean Human Spirit didn\'t really need to put in much effort to crush the entire body of a Goblin Skeleton. A single hit issued with full force was enough to impact hard on its bones and crush the Goblin Skeleton.
Even if the Goblin Skeleton\'s Core of the Undead was not destroyed in a single hit with the large iron mace, their upper body was likely to be destroyed to an extent where they couldn\'t fight anymore. That meant every hit of the Herculean Human Spirit was enough to eliminate one threat as long as the attack was issued precisely enough.
The Herculean Human Spirit didn\'t fail even once. It fought a little bit more passively than the Agile Human Spirit but that was expected. The Herculean Human Spirit blocked the spear thrusts with a shield rather than evading the attacks while closing in on his opponents. The Spirit blocked the attacks and cleaved down with the large iron mace.
That way, the Herculean Human Spirit ended up defeating more Goblin Skeletons than the Agile Human Spirit in the following minutes.
However, none of them was as fast as Zayn. He used his muscle memories to learn more about the Soulblade, how to regulate it properly and what it needed to cut through the Goblin Skeletons\' rib cages and the Cores of the Undead with his silver iron shortsword.
While testing it a little when he was fighting the Goblin Skeleton Groups before entering the town, Zayn had gotten his hands on a pretty decent tactic that allowed him to minimize the consumption of energy while maximizing the destructive force of his thrusts.
He used the Soulblade only around the tip of the silver iron shortsword and a small area of its blade to make sure that the silver iron shortsword would be able to cut through the opponent, if necessary, without getting damaged.
Zayn\'s energy consumption speed was not even one soul particle per second and he gained more than 10 soul particles from each of the Goblin Skeletons\' Soul Wisps he eliminated.
That way, his strength increased consistently as he paved his way through the masses of Goblin Skeletons. Zayn was trying to move more efficiently, which was why he tried to evade the Goblin Skeletons\' attacks without any wasted movements. It was not difficult to evade their attacks but doing so without wasting any energy on big movements made things a little bit more complicated.
However, the current situation was simply too perfect for letting it be wasted. It was time for him to adapt and overcome the hurdles!
Zayn evaded more than ten spear thrusts before he eliminated one of the Goblin Skeletons in his range by precisely piercing the silver iron shortsword through his opponent\'s rib cage and Core of the Undead.
He twisted his body afterward to avoid getting punctured by two more spears before he continued to move rapidly.
Zayn was breaking into a sweat but the corners of his lips were slowly tilting upward, while his ocean-blue eyes glistened brightly.
\'I am slowly getting somewhere!\'
